ANEC's
ONCALL
system provides a scalable
holistic approach to data center
management
and support systems, bridging the gap between data collection from
conventional BMS
systems managed by the Facilities group
and the data immediacy usually available from NMS (network management
systems)
operated by IT departments. In
short, many islands of information operating on several platforms and
usually
in different departments.
Going
Green
"Green" citizenship drivers to reduce CO2 emissions are often viewed
differently by Facilities Management and IT groups.
Facilities
tend to concentrate
on reducing collective overheads, whereas IT tends to be driven by
power
capacity, space
utilisation,
cooling constraints and evolving business needs.
IT managers
continue to be
challenged with
the trends to increase CPU, bandwidth and storage densities which push
the
boundaries of power and cooling capacity to the limits.
Many data centers and machine
rooms need to
be redesigned and engineered to provide improved efficiency.
Targets,
incentives and accountability will be shared as
new and emerging legislation and taxation now requires organisations to account for
energy
usage and demand. Both
Facilities and IT
must provide projections and consistent frequent reporting, reflecting
the
constantly changing complex dynamics of the data center and interaction
with
local climate.
Many of the data
sources are of course available, but present on disparate systems. Most managers
already find the collection and assessment of this data very time
consuming, tedious and repetitive;

This is further
exacerbated by inconsistencies and delays exerted by dependencies on
individuals and other departments.
ONCALL
provides the means to collect data from all business critical and
underlying support systems presenting the data in real-time interactive
topology views together with powerful graphical and tabular reports.
Continuously
collected
data from power meters, wireless sensors, rack appliances, server power
supplies and UPS
systems can be organised
within ONCALL to visually show correlations with environmental metrics
to calculate power consumption, utilisation and cooling efficiency.
This rich repository of data can be used to further identify trends for
capacity planning and identification of emerging problem areas with air
flow distribution and velocity with appropriate sensors.

| ONCALL
features intelligent alerting, escalation mechanisms, sensor
calibration and an ability to operate independently of dependencies on
specific vendor hardware. |

ONCALL's
capabilities are derived from industry standard IP enabled Snmp and
Modbus devices. ONCALL will add re-enforcement and safety to decisions
concerning changes to operating thresholds.
Real-time monitoring and alerting
during such changes will provide valuable information about the
dynamics and effects.
